How Medusa Became A Beast
There are lots of myths about how Medusa became an ugly monster. They both include Athena turning her into a monster. The first myth about Medusa starts out when she's still young and in love. She and her boyfriend went to the temple of Athena to get some privacy to talk. They soon started to kiss. Athena saw everything and was furious how Medusa and her lover were treating her temple. Disgusted she turned Medusa into a gorgon. Which in Greek mythology means a female monster. Her beautiful hair turned into hissing serpents. Who ever laid eyes on her would turn into stone. Her boyfriend ran away terrified.
The second myth about Medusa is a little less complicated. It all started when Medusa lived in the far north where there was no sun. She was very curious so she asked the Goddess Athena for permission to cross to the south to see the sun. When Athena refused, Medusa became so upset that she didn't let her cross that she blamed Athena for being jealous of her beauty. Athena was shocked that Medusa had the nerve to speak to a goddess that way, so to teach Medusa a lesson, she turned her hair into snakes and making her so ugly that anyone that would look at her would turn into stone.
